Hometown: Humboldt, Tennessee Family: Wife-Marian, Sons-Will 16, Clay 14 I was born in Humboldt, TN and have lived in West TN most of my life. I began hunting small game at a young age and began duck hunting during my early teens. Back then I didn't have the luxuries available today, 4-wheelers, blinds, leases, high tech warm clothing, etc. I basically stomped around in the swamp and hid where I could, most of the time standing in the water. Those years of hunting really make you appreciate the conveniences we have today. I didn't become a serious hunter until my college years, and duck hunting became a serious passion for me for many years and still is at times. As my boys became older and began growing up, I was very excited about introducing them to the outdoors and teaching them the things that I learned during my youth. While walking around on the family farm one fall afternoon, I noticed a strange track on a muddy field road. Little did I know that the identification of that turkey track would lead to a full time addiction or maybe a distraction. After a couple of seasons learning about and studying the Wild Turkey, I caused both of my sons to become addicted to turkey hunting as well. One of the things that I enjoy most is that their passion is as strong if not stronger than mine. The most important aspect of turkey hunting to me is not tagging a big tom, but keeping the next generation of hunters involved. Not only in hunting but conservation and habitat improvement as well. I feel very fortunate to be able to introduce our younger generation to the sport and to be able to spend time traveling and hunting turkeys with my own sons. It pleases me to be able to teach young hunters how to be better stewards of the land and ways to improve the wild turkey habitat for future seasons. There is nothing more satisfying than to enjoy the outdoors and turkey hunting with our younger generation and seeing the look on their face when that tom gobbles at their calls from 30 yards. You somehow know that at that point in time another young hunter has found a new passion and will continue to want you to hunt with them for years to come. |
